A new opportunity is emerging for UK academics working in semiconductor research. The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) has announced a major upcoming funding call to establish a Canada–UK NetworkPlus in semiconductor research, with the aim of enhancing collaboration between the two countries in this strategically vital area.
This initiative, supported by £1.125 million in total funding, is designed to foster deeper international collaboration, promote knowledge exchange, and seed future research projects between the UK and Canada.

What is the focus?
The NetworkPlus will support academic networks that develop and share expertise in areas of joint strategic importance, including:
-
Compound Semiconductors
-
Photonics
-
NEMS/MEMS (Nano/Microelectromechanical Systems)
-
Advanced Packaging
-
Chip Design
This initiative will also support the development of a shared roadmap and long-term vision for a larger-scale Canada–UK initiative in semiconductors, aimed at bolstering resilience and innovation across both nations.
